Denver enters Bye week 7-0 |
It's been a very surprising start to our season.
But even if our most optimistic pre-season thinking was a playoff berth, there is no way in hell we thought we would be 7-0 to start our season.
Especially after dealing QB Jay Cutler before the season.
Rookie QB Colt McCoy has really stepped up to help us to this point in the season. But make no mistake, we have been lucky as all get out to be where we are.
Two overtime wins plus last minute wins against the 49ers and Raiders. The Raiders could have put us in our place and start the year 0-1 if their kicker had nailed a last-minute FG from 47 yards.
A return to our roots of running the ball, playing good defense and minimize turnovers has helped the re-birth of the Broncos. FA G Cameron Stephenson and in-season trade for LT Walter Johnson has helped solidify the offensive line and give us balance across the line. RB Felix Jones has really taken to a starter's role in Denver. He is on pace to surpass the 1200+ yards earned last season and might run the ball more than the 379 touches as well. WR Eddie Royal is also on pace for another 1000+ yard season, after last years disappointing 865 yards.
On defense, the linebacking crew of Henderson and Bell have created havoc in the opponent's backfield with the switch to the 3-4 this season. The team is only giving up an average of 76 yards on the ground per game, which has helped the team allow only 17 points per game.
Overall, we are happy with the play of the young players and the newcomers to the team. It is a long season and I wouldn't be surprised to be 7-9 at the end of the year the way some games have gone in my favour this year. Is it better to be lucky or good? I'd prefer both, but who has control over that?
At any rate, a 3.5 division lead at this stage of the season is something to build on and we will continue to try to do the little things we have done so far this year. The break has come at a good time to re-assess what we will change in the 2nd half to keep from being predictable.
Good luck to all of you in the 2nd half of the season! |
