Mid-Season Coaching Change |
I'm happy to be here in the FCN and taking the controls of the Dallas Cowboys. It seems to me that a one and four record is an abomination and my first priority will be to bring respect to this team and do the best we can to knock those cocky Giants and Redskins down a notch. I'm here to tell you, you have a winner in town. |

Loss on OT kickreturn |
The Cowboys played the most frustrating, boring, madenn-ing game in the history of the WORLD this week. With Tebow out backup Rudy Carpenter would be getting his chance to show what he can do. And he showed us alright. With only TWO completions in the first half for a grand total of 18 TOTAL passing yards. But he did have his fun. At one point in the game he threw an INT. When we got the ball back he took sacks on the first two plays and then dumped the ball off to the RB running out to the flat. Problem was the RB had not yet turned around. The ball struck him in the back and was ruled a fumble. And of cours the Eagles recovered.
So we took Carpenter out at half time. Jonathan Stewart played very well and if it was not for the running game we would have shattered the record for punts in one game. Stewart broke tackles and run all over the field. Chris Leak came in and to make it more intesting he threw every pass with his LEFT hand. Of cours we all know that Leak is RIGHT handed. We will have to check to see if maybe Carpenter is a natural Lefty because he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. ( A really BIG barn)
But because of the running game the Cowboys managed to come back and actually pull ahead late in the 4th QTR. We last scored the go ahead FG with about 3:30 left in the game. This was too much time. The Eagles got into FG range and tied the game with about 30 seconds left. Not wanted to throw the game winning INT the Cowboys ran out the clock to take it to Overtime.
Everybody knows the most important thing in overtime is to win the coin toss. The Cowboys did that. On the opening kick in overtime Johnny Knox headed up field and was hit around the 20-25 the ball popped up and wouldn't you know it went right into the hands of the Eagles player who ran the 20 yards uncontested for the winning TD. What a way to put the Cherry on Top of what was the worst game I've ever seen. The only good thing about the fumble was that I didn't have to sit through that B.S. anymore. It was a GREAT call by the Philly coach. I'm not sure how much time he's been practicing that kick return defense. All I called was Kick Return but he definately had the right STATAGY to combat it. I think the play he picked was KICKOFF. What a genious call! What a way to end a miserable game.

Cowboy Ugly |
The Cowboys win an Ugly game vs the NY Giants played in Dallas.
Both QBs played poorly, But the Giants QB turned the ball over four times which really was the game breaker. Tebow played just good enough to win with only ONE interception.
The real key to the game was defense. The Cowboys D played a very good game both against the run and the pass. The player of the game was Chris Houston (obtained in an offseason trade). Houston had two INTs and returned one for a TD.
I'm sure Duper will be ready for me next time. I'd expect to see a lopsided score with the Giants on top the next time we meet. But, til then, we'll take it.

Cowboys get an "A" for Axecution |
Cowboys get an A for Axecution.
The Cowboys war room had a plan going into the draft. With many holes to fill we needed to get some starters and roll players in the draft. The Cowboys could not have been more pleased with their draft results.
The offseason Keys for the Cowboys were 1) Put more pressure in the QB. 2) Obtain some more turnovers. 3) RUN the football.
With pick 1.9 the Cowboys feel they got the best DL player in the draft when they selected Ziggy Hood. Hood will start right away at DT. He should provide a great deal of pressure along with Albert Haynesworth from the interior of our line. Hood is very quick off the ball, has good strength and at 300 lbs., should shore up the inside run defense as well. We had Hood as the OVR #1 Pick of this draft based on our team needs.
With pick 1.12 Dallas selected Andy Levitre OG from Oregon State. At 63 317 lbs he will also be an immediate starter. He was the best OG in the draft and should improve our O- Line for years to come. He was the #5 OVR pick on our draft board so we were excited to get him at 1.12.
Next pick was 2.4 and the Cowboys took Johnny Knox- WR from Abilene Christian. He is not only a deep threat who can score from anywhere but also a fantastic kick return specialist. He will add some explosion to our offense from day one.
With pick 3.9 the Cowboys selected Matt Shaughnessy DE from Wisconsin. At 65 270 lbs. he has size, strength and should be a very good tackler. Dallas will probably move him to RE where he can be a good run stuffer.
At pick 4.2 Dallas then took 22 year old Clinton McDonald. Clinton is 62 290 lbs. from Memphis. McDonald has the size we wanted and at 22 will be sent to Canada to gain some experience. With a year of seasoning he may come back as a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
With our second pick in round four 4.9 the Cowboys picked another player from Abilene Texas. Bernard Scott , Taken more to fill a roster need but Scott shows speed and shiftiness. He may become a kick returner along with Johnny Knox (also from Abilene Christian)
Picks 5.9, 6.9 and 7.9 were taken to fill in roster requirements but we feel we got some good potential from all three. At 5.9 Brandon Underwood from Cincinnati was the choice. At 6.9 Darien Stewart from South Carolina. And at 7.9 Lee Robinson from Alcorn State. Robinson has tremendous size for a LB with good speed, strength and tacking. Robinson may also go to Canada.
The Cowboys are excited about their draft. But we still have some other needs to fill in Free Agency. The Cowboys, however have the most Cap room in the entire league. With five remaining spots Dallas plans to Cowboy Up and will sign some big time Free Agents to complete their successful offseason.
So far we get an A for execution of the draft plan.

New Sheriff in Town (BIG-D) |
A new season brings a new sheriff to Dallas for the 2013 season. There will be many changes to the roster but we have got to say, I don't think we could have won 6 games with these guys.
Looking at last seasons stats a few things need to change. First we need to put more pressure on the QB. We were near the bottom in sacks. Second we need to obtain some more turnovers (again near the bottom). And last I think we need to RUN the football. None of these things can be accomplished with the current roster. So we will go into the draft and into FreeAgency looking for players to improve our team.
The next change is to RE-retire Troy Aikman's number and make Tim Tebow start looking like the Tebow we know. Tebow will get the #15 out of moth balls and try and restore his winning ways. However, nothing would make us happier than to see Jonathan Stewart win the rushing tltle. We will work hard to see if we can make this happen.
As with every season we would like to see a minimun of 8 wins. But with the right combination of Free Agents and Draft picks Dallas may soon be in the playoff hunt again.
