77 | Released | | RT Colin Brown | 76 | Trade | | CB Deon Beasley | 69 | Released | | QB Andre Woodson | 62 | Released | | | | | | OFFSEASON / FREE AGENT PICK UPS | OVR | Notes | | ROLB Darryl Blackstock | 92 | Everything you could ask for in an OLB speed, str, size, awr…just a little bit long in the tooth | | CB Chris Gamble | 85 | salty CB, ready to roam the middle of the field, great awr | | WR Todd Blythe | 84 | perfect slot WR, 6'5, good hands, awareness | | LOLB Brandon Miller | 84 | UFA pickup, has had an unspectacular career thus far with the Giants…Dolphins project him to starting OLB due to his size / spd combination. | | LE Tavarious Robinson | 82 | This may be the last chance for Tavarious Rex. He's had a few years of development with the Phins but it seems that his growth has stalled. He has all the measurables to be a great DE in the 3-4 but it looks like he lacks the desire. With 1st round pick Alex Carrington breathing down his back, he'd better hope the light comes on quick...but it may already be too late. | | HB Javarris James | 80 | With Kregg Lumpkin out of the fold, Miami needed a young bulldozing back to spell Ronnie Brown every now and then…Javarris fits the bill. | | HB Kenny Lewis | 73 | Dolphins hope that journeyman Kenny Lewis can hold down the fort at #3 HB while Kory Sheets is off in Canada preparing himself for the eventual departure of Ronnie Brown. | |
| DT Doug Worthington | 70 | Out of football last year, the dolphins bring back the 6'7 Worthington this season. He'll likely never be a starter in this league but he uses his size well in situational play. | | QB Kyle Reed | 69 | Undrafted rookie displaces a floundering Andre Woodson at the #3 QB spot for the Dolphins. | | | | | | OUR DRAFT PICKS | OVR | Notes | | 1.16 LE Alex Carrington | 77 | Heir apperant to Richard Seymour as the 3-4 bookend to Tyson Jackson. Great size at 6'5 / 285 lbs as well as good STR and quickness | | 1.25 DT Lamarr Houston | 78 | Dolphins go a bit of a different route this season at DT#2…getting away from the 330lb monsters of the past few years, Lamarr Houston should provide enough girth to stop the run at 305lbs as well as some quickness to get inside those guards and smack some QBs | | 3.25 WR David Gettis | 70 | best available WR for a slot role, has solid height/speed combo, good quickness, and some catching ability (although not much)… | | 4.25 ROLB Adrian Tracy | 72 | auto draft mistake that might turn out to be a decent MLB some day, great size and tackling ability, too slow to be a successful OLB | | 5.25 RG Dace Richardson | 68 | great size, average stregth, decent blocking, no awareness…going to Canada | | 6.25 LT Austin Howard | 68 | great size, average stregth, decent blocking, no awareness...relegated to back up | | 7.25 SS Matt O'Hanlon | 71 | slow, weak, cant tackle….what do you want in the 7th round? At least he has a cool name. | | | | | | Dolphins Team Canada | OVR | Notes | | TE Vincent Chase | 74 | At 6'5 and 255 lbs this kid has great size and is an above average blocking TE. With old man Gates eyeing his wheelchair the Phins hope that Vincent has a great year in Canada | | WR Austin Collie | 73 | Drafted in the same year as TE Chase, both these kids have been working in the wings on the Phins roster for 2 seasons…hopefully a season in Canada will see Austin return as a quality slot WR and a viable option at KR/PR | | | | ROLB Adrian Tracy | 73 | As mentioned in the draft recap, this kid doesn’t have the speed to be successful at OLB, but he does have the measurables and intangibles to be a force later at MLB if he sets his mind to it. | | HB Kory Sheets | 71 | Another in the Dolphins '12 draft class, Sheets has already proven himself on the FCN field of battle, he's been outstanding in situational play for 2 seasons, but since he's not able to crack the starting line up the Phins brass has elected to utilize his eligibility for Candada and hope that he returns stronger, smarter and even more ready to contribute to the offensive game plan. |
| | RG Dace Richardson | 69 | 6'5 and 320lbs this guy is about as big as they come, he has very average STR but is a competent blocker…he's lacking in some of the key areas that a good G needs like AGI, ACC and of course AWR…hopefully some time in Canada will get him up to speed. |

Belated Dolphins Draft Wrap Up |
Belated Dolphins Draft Wrap Up
1
1.15 DT Ron Brace 6'3"; 330lbs out of Boston College - The Miami Dolphins traded away perennial pro bowler Vince Wilfork because he smelled too much like Patriot. Bringing in Ron Brace was a huge step in getting this 3-4 D set up for years to come. |
|
| 2.29 TE Richard Quinn There were huge questions surrounding this position coming into the draft. Old man Gates was a free agent and the previous years 3rd round pick failed to progress as we'd hoped. Quinn weighs in at 6'4" and 264 lbs, more than big enough to set up some blocks for HB Brown. | 3.29 CB Brandon Hughes Dolphins brass may have reached a little for this pick, but they weren't the only ones to put a premium on speed. Noticing that a lot of potential draftees in this class were clocked slower than old ladies on walkers, the front office decided that Hughes with a 90 SPD and good measurables would be a solid project corner. |
|
| 3.30 FB James Casey Despite starting every down last season FB Tim Cesa regressed. Bringing in a young replacement was a priority for the front office as the Phins have to be able to run the ball. Casey at 6'3"; and 246lbs has great size and combines it with serviceable speed that should help Brown get to the outside a little more this season. | 4.29 P Brandon Fields Too many times last season Kaylor left the defense in a bad spot because he couldn't kick the ball down the field. So the Dolphins went out and got the biggest leg in the class. Fields out of Michigan State is a big kid, at 6'5"; 235lbs we wish he could throw the ball a little too. |
|

| 6.21 RE Jeremy Navarre 6'3"; 285lbs - great size for a 3-4 DE and with a solid STR rating of 79 he will fit the scheme nicely. Navarre, a Maryland product will have a few seasons to work on his tackle ability and AWR. |

Cue the Santos Supporters |
They always say the most popular guy in town is the backup quarterback of a losing team. But what about when a team is doing well and the starter goes down to injury? If the back up comes in and manages the game just as well…or heaven forbid looks even better than the starter did, what happens then?
Well, I suppose it’s different with every team, and every situation varies…but 2nd year QB Ricky Santos, making his first ever start for these Miami Dolphins, has most definitely opened some peoples eyes today. In his performance vs the previously undefeated New Orleans Saints, Santos masterfully directed the game from the very first drive in which he took the Miami Dolphins offense 80 yards for the opening score of the game. His very first pass to all pro TE Antonio Gates was a big gainer up the left side of the field.
“That play was huge”, commented Coach Matt as he stepped out from behind the water cooler (where he looked to be cowering). Pulling his little green notebook from his waistband Coach Matt seemed renewed as he started to dial up his offensive play calling. A noticeable change in his demeanor from the days preceding kick off…word is Coach Matt hadn’t left his office since the news about QB Troy Smith’s injury broke. In fact some say he had been sobbing in the corner for days…which he vehemently denied at the post game presser.
In any case, this first pass was obviously important from a strategy perspective. If Santos wasn’t able to establish the passing game, everyone, especially the Saints D, knew they could spend the entire game stacking the box to shut down Miami’s running attack.
As the game wore on Ricky managed the offense like an old pro going 15 for 21 with 216 yards 2 TDs and 0 INTs. A 136.1 QB rating to end the day which is far more than anyone, even Santos himself expected.
“I was just out there trying to make plays, everything seemed to be going our way today” said Santos after the game.
Playing all the right cards with the media Santos went on to explain that none of this could’ve happened without the excellent players around him making all the plays. He then went on to give credit to HB Ronnie Brown for his 150 yard performance, CB William Peterson for his 100 yard interception return for a TD, the entire defense for making plays all night and of course his offensive line. Santos then exited the stage, kissing hands and shaking babies along the way.
Well, we doubt there’s really a QB controversy in Miami after only 1 game, but we certainly know that QB Ricky Santos made some fans on this day…and even when Troy Smith makes it back from injury, we can’t help but think his leash just got a little shorter. |

The 'leg cramp' Heard Round the World |
| When Dolphins QB Troy Smith went out for 3 plays with a leg cramp last week vs the Bucs, nobody could have guessed that the cramp in the back of his thigh would morph into a strained ACL just days before the Dolphins are due to play the undefeated Saintans. Now the Phins will have to rely even more heavily on their stable of running backs and 2nd year QB Ricky Santos will be thrown into the fire. When asked how he planned to approach the upcoming game Santos replied "well, I'll just prepare like I do every week, then probably throw up a bit". |

Phins Report Week 4 |
The Dolphins win this week in a muddy affair at Landshark Stadium. The forecast called for rain, which had Miami’s Running backs in a minor panic. They’ve had problems hanging onto the ball this year, and this rain wasn’t going to help them buck the trend. In his pregame speech to the team Coach Matt addressed the issue with some of his legendary backhanded logic.
He looked directly at the HBs and the line went something like this “If’n ya’ll don’t stop droppin that ball when yer runnin and getting tackled, then we aint gonna win the game…so why don’t ya’ll try not getting tackled so much, it aint rocket science”.
Simple and to the point…that’s how it goes. And to everyone’s surprise, they took it to heart. 3 Dolphin running backs had runs of 20+ yards in this game, each one resulting in a touch down. The Defense played strong and both the passing and kicking games were on target all day.
Ultimately this was a well played game by both teams. Miami got a few more breaks than the Panthers did and took full advantage of the fact that one of Carolina’s best defenders (Julius Peppers) was out of the line up.
