Jags call on Rookie again and James helps deliver win |
Jacksonville, FL - The game started as if the Bengals were going to run away with it. Fourteen quick points and Jaguars QB Drew Stanton not hitting on anything, the Jags looked as if they were going down quickly. The Jags then turned to rookie RB Javarris James to help lead the way and the Jags suddenly found life. Even though James didn't have a run over 14 yards the consistent move to the run game proved very special allowing the Jags offense to become balanced which allowed the Jags to outscore the Bengals 17 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter and finishing out the game 9-7 in the 2nd half.
The Jaguars matched the Bengals in 1st downs with 16 and also completed 50% of their 3rd downs (6/12). The Jaguars ventured into the Bengals redzone five times scoring three TDs and two FGs. The Bengals outgained the Jaguars in total yards 340-251 but most of those yards came when the Bengals built their 14 point lead.
QB Stanton threw for 139 yards and one TD. RB Javarris James ran for 102 yards and 1 TD with 0 fumbles. Veteran TE Matt Spaeth caught three passes for 29 yards and was more instrumental in the blocking game with four pancakes. RB Adrian Peterson who has been relegated to 3rd downs caught 2 passes for 25 yards and had a crucial 3rd down conversion in the game. WRs Paul Williams, Paul Hubbard and Jeff Samardzija didn't have great or good games combining for five catches and 57 yards and zero TDs.
The defense was led by rookie Deunta Williams who had eight tackles. Veteran Safety Troy Polamalu had seven tackles and three deflections. LB Abdul Hodge had seven tackles while CB Ashton Youboty had six tackles.
All in all this game was solid and good. The Jags bounced back from their tough loss versus the Dolphins last week and showed a strong performance and grit. |
