Third Week into OC's Reign; Lions 3-1 |
Three weeks after firing their offensive coordinator after a dismal week 1 showing against GB, the Lions' offense is showing increased improvement and confidence. Even though they scored 0 TDs for the first time since his hiring in week 2, the offense dominated the game showing ultimate control of the aerial game, completing almost 80% of their passes, while more than doubling the Bears' time of possession. They also showed that their OC's philosophy of using short slants and quick hits can cover for their lack of a run game. As the GM continues to figure out how to improve the running attack of this team, the OC is confident QB Ben Roethlisberger's quick thinking and accuracy, combined with the WR's excellent hands, can overcome any shortcomings on the ground.
On the other side of the ball, the defense continued showing their dominance, allowing just 116 yards total and 3 points. Even more astounding is the minuscule 19 yards allowed on the ground. The addition of the quality, veteran LBs Lewis and Washington to Detroit's 3-4 formation is showing great dividends to the risk of picking up the aging linebackers.
With the looming showdown with the defending Super Bowl Champion Redskins, the Lions coach is very excited about the chance to test his team to their very limits. Hopefully his game plan of ball control and staunch defence can continue against Coach Tilly and the Washington Redskins |
