Redskins Quarterly Report
Offense
Scoring: 18.5 (19th)
Total Off: 254.8 (23rd)
Rushing: 73.5 (25th)
Passing: 181.3 (19th)
3rd Down: 46% (tied 6th)
Red Zone: 55 of a possible 63 points scored (87.3%)
Giveaways: 6 (tied 14th)

Passing Game:
Chad Henne has gotten off to a solid start with 60.7% completions, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions for a 78.8 rating despite having most of his targets from last season no longer around. The expectation was that Harvin would lead this very young group, and he has played well. However, rookie Arrelious Benn has comparable numbers with 18 receptions, 200 yards, and 1 drop. Greg Mathews is off to a poor start in the slot with 7 catches and 4 drops. The revamped line has held up well so far early on too.

Rushing Game:
We upgraded our OL with the hopes that it would pay off with the young running backs. Lutui and Zuttah are not playing as well as was hoped, but the run game has been solid. Bardon Minor is averaging 2.95 yards per carry and Harvey Unga is getting 2.74 yards per carry. Though each is doing a good job of not putting the ball on the ground (2 fumbles between them).

Defense
Points Allowed: 13.3 (4th)
Total Yards: 212.0 (2nd)
Passing Yards: 170 (12th)
Rushing Yards: 42.0 (1st)
Third Downs: 45% (tied 24th)
Sacks: 10 (tied 7th)
Takeaways: 4 (tied 21st)
Red Zone: 37.5% scoring (2nd)

Front Seven:
Has been as good as hoped with returning all seven starters up front from last season's defense. The run defense has been outstanding with emerging star Obi Ezeh plucking 2 interceptions to lead the team. Each of the front three guys has at least 2 sacks as well. Rookie, Arthur Jones got his first sack of the season last week as he only sees time when the defense goes Nickel or Dime.

Secondary:
Has played well despite only having 4 interceptions to this point and not having Donald Washington for the early part of the season. Youngster, Chimdi Chekwa has stepped in with 14 tackles and 4 deflections in his absence.

Team Overview
A 3-1 start again has the Redskins thinking about winning the NFC East. Though the upstart Eagles and Cowboys should make it a difficult task. The run game has had it's struggles which may push the offense to try the passing game a bit more. Youngsters at HB, WR, and TE will continue to make that side of the ball an adventure. The defense will have to continue to play well in order to keep games low scoring and give this team a chance to win each week. With Sean Taylor getting hurt the secondary will have a new look once again. Donovan Warren will get to start initially, but if he struggles Adrian Wilson will step into the FS spot.

Defense, Defense, and More Defense
The Redskins travelled to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. Washington was looking to roll back into the Super Bowl to defend their title. The Cardinals were looking to avenge the play-off loss form last season to the Redskins.

First Quarter
The Cardinals offense took the opening kick-off and kicked the Redskins defense right in the mouth. With mostly runs they took a 3-0 lead halfway through the quarter {11 plays, 52 yards}. Neither offense could put together a solid drive after that.
Redskins 0, Cardinals 3

Second Quarter
The Redskins offense finally started to move the ball. Then Henne (19-31-188) went to a check down to Portis and tossed it over his head. Right into the waiting arms of Kirk Morrison (4tkl, 1dfl) at midfield. On the second plat of that drive, Carson Palmer (7-20-117) dumped a ball off to Carnell Williams in the flats. He ran through the LBs attempted tackle. Then turned on the jets which caught Sean Taylor by surprise and he took a bad angle. 53 yards later he was in the end zone with ten minutes left in the half. From that point on the defenses continued to force punts, the Redskins with their swarming pass defense, and the Cardinals with their potent pass rush (5 sacks, and countless hurries on the day).
Redskins 0, Cardinals 10

Third Quarter
The Redskins defense set the offense up with good field position. The offense went 30 yards on 7 plays to knock in a 45-yard field goal midway through the quarter.
Redskins 3, Cardinals 10

Fourth Quarter
The Cardinals offense put together a 10 play, 38 yard drive that led to a 35-yard field goal with 7:20 left in the game. On the Redskins next drive Henne hit Harvin on a deep ball to midfield. The next play Henne dropped back looked off the short crossing routes and tossed another one to Harvin. This time Orlando Scandrick (3tkl, 2dfl) jumped up and snared it for the pick. The Cardinals didn't score, but ran off some valuable time. Washington knocked in a 39-yard field goal {11 plays, 46 yards} right before the two minute warning. They decided to kick it deep and use their three time outs to get the ball back. Only problem was...the defense couldn't make a play and the Cardinals ran out the clock.
Redskins 6, Cardinals 13

Congrats on the win Cody, the game was a blast! Best of luck representing the NFC!

To the Final Gun
The Redskins won at home during wildcard week. Now they had to travel to Carolina and take on the Panthers. Carolina was 8-0 at home during the regular season, and on a 13-1 streak leading into this game.

First Quarter
The defense dominated as they forced multiple punts. The Redskins, Terrence Wheatley (3 tkl, 1 dfl) snared an early pick. However, the Panthers defense forced a three an out.
Redskins 0, Panthers 0

Second Quarter
The Panthers capped off a 12 play, 40 yard dive with a 43-yard field goal just a minute in. The Redskins offense finally found a response as they marched down the field. They went 60 yards on 9 plays and came away with a 32-yard field goal to tie the game. The Panthers offense then took the football 36 yards on 9 plays to grab the lead with 2:36 to play. This time it was a 46-yard field goal. The Redskins ran on first down and gave a thought to running out the clock. However, with the 2 minute warning lurking and the Panthers with all 3 timeouts they decided to play for a score. With 2:01 on the clock, Henne took the snap and found Chad Johnson on a 8 yard hook route. The first defender missed, followed by Johnson juking his way past two more. He scampered 71 yards to complete to long play with a touchdown.
Redskins 10, Panthers 6

Third Quarter
The Redskins offense was being strangled by the Panthers pass defense. So they went to the ground game. The OL and Clinton Portis (30 att, 129 yds) led them down the field to take pressure off of Henne. Brandon Minor scampered in from 3 yards out to complete the 15 play, 83 yard dive and extend the lead.
Redskins 17, Panthers 6

Fourth Quarter
Brian Brohm found his offense's rhythm as they looked to answer. A score with ten minutes left to play was just what the Panthers needed. Matt Forte (24 att, 72 yds) punched it in from one yard out to finish off the 10 play, 73 yard drive. Carolina now down 17-12 made the decision to go for two. They came up short, and remained down five. After a couple stops by the defense the Panthers offense found a groove once more. This time Brian Brohm (22-38-268-1-1) hit Kevin Boss (7 rec, 67 yds) for a ten yard touchdown pass with 1:37 left in the game. Up 18-17 the Panthers once again went for two, but didn't get it. Chad Henne and the offense took the field. To this point Henne was 4 of 17 passing due to the Panthers great coverage against the Redskins receivers. He started with a 15 yard completion to Chad Johnson (4 rec, 127 yds). Then he hit Percy Harvin (2 rec, 39 yards) on a 32 yard strike. Three runs later set up the final field goal attempt. As time expired...Huston knocked home a 42-yard field goal for the win.
Redskins 20, Panthers 18

Game goes to the Final Gun in OT
The Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins both came into this game undefeated. Arizona was looking for a little revenge after getting knock out of the play-offs by Washington last season.

First Quarter
The Cardinals defense came out and dominated the Redskins offense early on. Arizona's offense took a little time themselves. Ten minutes into the game the Cardinals capped an 11 play, 70 yard drive with a 40-yard field for the only score.
Cardinals 3, Redskins 0

Second Quarter
After another Redskins three and out, the Cardinals moved the ball again. This time going 64 yards on 13 plays for a 28-yard field goal. After yet another short Redskins drive the Cardinals marched down the field once again. Just after the two minute warning they kicked a 41-yard field after a 10 play, 38 yard effort.
Cardinals 9, Redskins 0

Third Quarter
The Redskins offense finally found an answer three minutes into the second half. Clinton Portis (23 carries, 61 yards) made a nifty spin move and found the endzone from 4 yards away {7 play, 78 yards}. The Cardinals offense got right back to moving the ball, but Terrence Wheatley (4 tackles, 1 deflection) came up with an interception.
Cardinals 9, Redskins 7

Fourth Quarter
The Washington offense turned the turnover into three points on the opening play of the quarter with a 31-yard field goal {11 plays, 74 yards}. After a defensive stop and a nice punt return by Breaston the Redskins moved the ball in for a first and goal from the 3. However, the Cardinals would give them a yard and the Redskins had to settle for a 22-yard field and a 13-9 lead with seven minutes to play. The Cardinals converted a key fourth down to keep alive a 15 play, 74 yard drive. They took the lead on an 11 yard touchdown pass on fourth down and 1:24 to go. Carson Palmer (19-33-223-1-1) through a perfect strike to Jacoby Jones (4 rec, 63 yards). The Redskins offense moved quickly and kicked home a 37-yard field goal to tie it as time expired.
Cardinals 16, Redskins 16

Overtime
The Cardinals won the toss and started to march down the field. They hammered through a key 4th and inches around midfield. The Redskins defense found a way to stop them at the 37 though, and the Cardinals punted the ball away to play field position. The Washington offense would have an answer as they moved the ball back down the field. Kicking a 38-yard field goal to win the game as time expired in overtime.
Cardinals 16, Redskins 19

Cowboys vs Redskins
The Dallas Cowboys were playing their first game under their new head coach. They came to DC looking to knock off their NFC East rivals.

First Quarter
Both offenses started the game trying to get a feel for the defenses. The Cowboys started moving down the field when Chris Graham (5 tkl, 1 sack) intercepted a pass at the 21 yard line to end the first scoring thrreat of the game.
Cowboys 0, Redskins 0

Second Quarter
The Redskins offense was able to put together a 75 yard drive that took 15 plays, but stalled inside the 5. They had to settle for a 20-yard field goal. The Dallas offense responded with a 14 play drive that covered 72 yards. They ended up having to settle for a 19-yard field goal to tie the score at the two minute warning. Washington moved into their two minute offense. Chad Henne (17 of 25 for 225 yards) completed the drive with a 28 yard pass play to Clinton Portis (2 rec, 32 yds) with 20 seconds left in the half.
Cowboys 3, Redskins 10

Third Quarter
The Dallas Cowboys evened the score midway through the quarter. Santana Moss (2 rec, 27 yds) hauled in a 15 yard touchdown pass from Tim Tebow (14 of 27 for 174 yards) to complete a 7 play, 74 yard drive. The Redskins offense then put together another long drive. This time 15 plays spanning 76 yards. Steve Breaston (6 rec, 79 yds) snared a 7 yard touchdown pass as the quarter came to a close.
Cowboys 10 , Redskins 17

Fourth Quarter
Tebow started to move the Cowboys back down the field. However, Sean Taylor (2 tkl, 2 dfl) stepped in front of a pass and ran it back 64 yards to put the Redskins up by 14. Washington then stopped the Dallas offense on their next possession. The Redskins used a 7 plays drive to advance 20 yards and kicked a 36-yard field with six minutes to play. Sean Taylor hauled in his second interception on the ensuing Dallas drive to help finish off the victory.
